Plant Paper

Local plant fibers used in these sheets of handmade paper are gathered from my yard and the surrounding countryside. These fibers need cooking to remove impurities, beating to roughen the fibers and allow them to absorb water. Then the fibers are pulled into sheets, ranging from delicate and lacey to card-stock weight. This is an ancient and labor-intensive process. We use local fibers and flowers fresh, as they are in season for more colorful ingredients, or dried and pressed for more earthly tones.
